TIPS ON BUYING A HORSE
-
BUY
DIRECTLY FROM THE BREEDER -
If possible, always buy directly from the Breeder. Visit the farm,
view the surroundings and management of the farm and ask to see
the sire, dam and siblings. The care a horse receives as a foal
will determine its overall health, temperament and soundness as
an adult. If you do not know where the horse comes from or how
it was reared as a youngster, stay clear of buying it.
-
BUY
THE BEST YOU CAN AFFORD
-
The initial outlay of buying a horse is minuscule compared to
the annual up-keep. The livery or up-keep costs of a good horse
and an average horse are the same.
-
GET
A FULL MEDICAL CHECKUP BY AN INDEPENDENT VETERINARIAN
-
Even when buying from reputable breeders, it is always advisable
to engage an independent veterinarian to carry out a full medical
check-out of the horse before purchase. If you do not know of
one, contact us.
- PEACE
OF MIND - INFORM US OF YOUR PURCHASE -
If you inform us immediately you purchase an animal advertised on
our website, we will offer to mediate should any problems arise
with your purchase.
- AND
LASTLY, BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY - NEVER, BUT NEVER, PURCHASE
A HORSE BASED ON A PHOTOGRAPH -
A good photographer can make even a pony look tall! And do not be
carried away because in the photo the horse looks stunning - really
shiny with long-flowing mane. Take some time to study the horses's
ancestry and background - where was it reared, who schooled it,
how many owner's has it had - this is all really important!! And
if in doubt, go straight to the Breeder!
